iLuv mySight Review
We got our hands on a mySight camera by iLuv to use and review. After playing with it for a while, we opted to add the iLuv mySight camera to our best pet cam list. Take a look at the full review below and see why this camera ranks with the best.
Design and Unboxing
After unboxing the iLuv mySight camera, I was surprised by the size. It’s smaller than expected, even though the box has an image of actual size. However we consider this a plus. Inside the box you’ll find the mySight camera itself, metallic stand, wall mount, 10 ft micro USB charger cable, AC adapter, and quick start guide.
Moving into the design, the iLuv mySight camera really strikes a clean combination of Apple and Samsung. The aluminum body and black camera face feel very well made. The swivel stand provides a full 360 degree rotation so you can have it angled where ever you need it. On the rear of the camera you will find the speaker for two-way audio, a reset button, and a micro USB port for power. Speaking of the micro USB, the cable itself is flat instead of the standard round cable which helps prevent tangles (plus they just look cool). The base/stand of the camera have mounting holes (hardware included) to install on a wall or ceiling, if preferred.
Setup
We chose to use the mySight camera “as is” with the stand instead of mounting to the wall. If you prefer to have yours mounted, follow instructions to finish this step before powering on and installing the app.
Setting up the iLuv mySight camera was remarkably easy. Plug the power adapter in and download the Ivideon app – that’s about it! On screen instructions from the app will help with pairing the device to the app and connecting to your Wi-Fi. iLuv claims the mySight camera is an “easy 60-second setup” and we agree.

Video Quality
iLuv mySight streams live video with an excellent 720p HD quality and 120 degree wide angle lens. iLuv mySight is also equipped with night vision which works very well. While it doesn’t compete with Nest’s 1080p HD camera, the price of the iLuv mySight camera is significantly lower. At the price mark, the mySight video quality is excellent. Take a look at this screenshot we recorded from the app (don’t mind the mess and dog toys everywhere).
Two-Way Audio
The clarity of the mySight audio is great compared to others we’ve tested. There is a delay in communication, which is similar across the board of other cameras on the market. This lag is due to the complexity of the communication channels.
Motion Detection
Motion detection seems to work great. By default, the app will send push notifications to your cell phone when motion is detected, in addition to emails. Both of these can be changed; however, we recommend keeping at least one on. You don’t want to have a security camera but not know when someone is breaking into your house. One of the unique aspects of mySight’s motion and sound detection is the ability to set specific areas. You can actually target specific areas within the room for heightened performance.
Noise Detection
Similar to the motion detection, the noise detection also works well. This is also a feature that not all security cameras or pet cameras have. I received a push notification to my smartphone when my dog barked in the house. If you have a loud dog that tends to bark a lot, you may end up turning noise detection off like I did.
Cloud Recording
The mySight camera comes with 30 days free cloud storage. Beyond that, you have to sign up for a paid plan if you want to be able to record and save video on the cloud. They often have deals on their cloud subscription services including 20% off Ivideon Premium plan.
Smartphone App
iLuv uses the Ivideon app for their mySight camera. Ivideon is an application that multiple different camera manufacturers can use for cloud recording and managing devices. Nonetheless, the application works great. For this review, we used Android and didn’t experience any hiccups or lag. Within the app you can control multiple iLuv mySight features including:
- Watch live video and listen in real-time
- Configure and view cloud recordings
- Take snapshots and save to the cloud or to your smartphone
- Talk with the built-in microphone and two-way audio
